Zanzibar

This is our second time on Zanzibar. We come directly with a pretty short flight from Dar Es Salaam. A car is already waiting for us to bring us to the Clove Hotel Zanzibar. This is even nicer compared to the place we stayed at last time with its laid-back rooftop terrace which offers a great see view and a very well stocked up fridge. Both places provide an excellent base for exploring Stone Town.

This time around it's Ramadan and the muezzin are very present combined with the clock towers and a cock that is crying from early morning every 15 seconds.

During the day we show Manuel and Caro around Stone Town, go shopping on the spice market and buy a few souvenirs.  Today is Karin's birthday. We decide to go for a coffee and a cake into the Serena Hotel. A five star hotel located at the edge of Stone Town directly at the see front. In the evening we take Karin out to a more oriental place, the Monsoon Restaurant. In the typical style we sit on cushions around a low table in a really nice atmosphere. Of course we take the full course starting with cocktails, a four course menu, wine and a nightcap afterwards on the roof terrace. A very different birthday celebration and Karin enjoys it a lot.

The next morning we take a group taxi that is fully occupied with a crazy driver up north to Kendwa Rocks. Like last time we want to spend a few days on the beach relaxing. This time our reservation got lost somehow and we need to stay one night in a different room before the one we have booked directly at the beach is free the next night.

We have a nice dinner with Manuel and Caro who invite us to a nice bottle of wine. The next day we do a snorkel trip which is quite ok. The rest of the day we spent on the beach followed by big plate of fish in the evening. Life is good!

The next morning Manuel and Caro have to leave already. We say good by to them and glad that we have another few days here. The weather is somewhat mixed this time with some light showers but overall it's good enough to relax, do some walks along the beach. After almost a full week on Zanzibar we fly back to Dar Es Salaam where we spend another two days before in the eving of October 18 we start our long way back to Europe.  Here SWISS sucks completely after we had an emergency landing in Adisabeba. As a result we get home 24 hours later as expected. SWISS is an airline that we have removed from the airlines we fly with a long as possible. Despite this we had a great time and are happy that we could come back just one year after our first trip to Tanzania to explore more of this fascianting country.
