Welwitschia Drive
Today we enter the Namib Naukluft Park and start with what they call the Welwitschia Drive. This brings us throug an area with quite a few of this very strange plant. This plant is the only species in this category and can get really old. We pass by one of the oldest ones know. They guess it to be more than 1500 years old. Funnily enough the plant has just one pair of leaves. It looks different but that's only because the ends of the two leaves crack open. They grow very slowly and are very sensitive. That's also whey the put a fence around this really old one to keep the tourists off. We are amazed by this very unusual plant and continue our tour.
We enter the Namib Naukluft National Park from Swakopmund.
First thing we come across is the with it's moon landscape.
This is a Wwelwitschia. They guess it is > 1500 years old.
They grow very slowly gut can get quite big.
Fascinating is the fact that they consist only of one pair of leaves.
This is our first Koekerboom.
No, it has nothing to do with a tree.
Although it looks very much like one.
We are lucky and see a gemsbok.
Would be nice to camp out here at the Rock Arch.
We also come across a meerkat.
Driving through endless roads in the desert.
A good dinner at Kuiseb-Bridge Camp closes out a great day.

We continue to Blutkuppe and the Rock Arch and see our first Koekerboom. On the way we see many different animals. This is really a great region and it would have been great to camp out here for the night. However, as we are getting towards the end of our tour already we need to drive a bit further today.
Today we camp at the Kuiseb-Bridge Camp. Not comparable to this landscape as it is directly located next to the road. However, as there is no traffic through the night it is OK. Especially since we light a fire and cook a couple of great steaks for dinner. Together with a good bottle of wine the evening closes out another eventful day.
