Costa Smeralda

When Michael was booking the ticket the web site of Mobby was suggesting an arrival time in Olbia/Sardinia of 6:30 am. At 6 am there is an announcement that we should leave our cabin which we do. However, while we the sun is starting to rise the island is not in sight. No way we will be arriving at 6:30 am. Turns out later that for whatever reason it's another two hours before we will arrive shortly after 8 pm. Anyway, it's one of those occasions, especially for Karin, to see a beautiful sun rise. Doesn't happen so often. We use the time to get a breakfast on the ferry.

Once we are finally in Olbia the caravan begins to role. Most of them seem to turn south but we decide to follow the old coastal road up north. Here we get a first impression of Sardinia.

We follow the old coastal road first towards Golfo Aranci and then up north along the Costa Smeralda. In Porto Cervo we make a stop to see where the rich and beautiful have their houses and the big boats. While it looks better as expected for us it has no real flair. It is also not the area we would want to stay. Following the road further north to Cannigione we come to a big camp site. Not usually the type of place we go to but we decide it's enough driving for today. While it's really big we find a nice spot away from the crowd and beautiful view across the sea. Unfortunately it is also a windy spot. For two nights we stay here, go swimming and cycling. A good start into our vacation.
